There’s something about being on the water that makes me happy to no end. It’s relaxing and the rest of the world seems to float away. My phone died Friday night, and even with my close friends around, I can be a serious iPhone addict. Not this time. I didn’t even think to charge it until nearly 24 hours later. Sometimes you just need a weekend like that.
The sun didn’t peek out until Sunday morning, but the moment it did we wasted no time, grabbed a few kayaks and set out on the water.
Karen and I decided to take the lone canoe out for a spin. This way she could be my gondola-style paddler while I snapped away on my camera. This was lots of hard work so she needed to lie down on the dock for a bit afterwards.
Kara’s family has a bit of a reputation for feeding the ducks, and boy can you tell. The little guys are a permanent fixture around the dock and gave us a good laugh as they dove for corn kernels. One guy, Wild Quack, has even earned a name.
No one loves the river house more than Sammy. He proudly patrols the yard and dock, and he mans the bow when we’re out on the boat.
The local marina has a lot of fun toys for rent including stand up paddle boards and these bad boys, paddle kayaks. Just like paddle boats, these kayaks are powered by paddles under your feet and a rudder is used to steer.
