While I may be grappling with the transition back home from Thailand, I am thoroughly thrilled that I am here in time for the fair.
Our first stop was inevitably the fried food stand. We settled for a big funnel cake and a paper boat filled with fried oreos. Kara set out sprinkling powdered sugar on the funnel cake when we realized the canisters were all empty. Lucky for us, a girl popped out of the stand quickly and handed us three new shakers. A cloud of white dust ensued, but I’m still not sure we got enough.
Sticky handed and a bit full, we set off to win some prizes. Kara was beat at the water gun races and didn’t earn quite enough points tossing wiffle balls, but she quickly proved to be an expert at dart throwing, popping two balloons with one dart on her first throw (we won’t count the first miss.. that was warming up).
We each won a little prize – I’m not sure what that creature is that Kara got, but my puppies loved the orange elephant and promptly tore him to shreds. He is now an eyeless, fluffless shell of an animal.
Kara is still dreaming of bigger prizes though.
Of all the rides the ferris wheel and flying swings tie for my favorite. Unfortunately skipped both this time. The lines for tickets were long and we had a few too many fried things to stomach it.
So naturally, we set off for even more junk food. Kara devoured her corn dog while I struggled to find an entry angle with my caramel apple.
And the fair just wouldn’t be the fair without cotton candy. So I loaded up on a bag of that too to share with everyone back home.
I received a few comments citing Beyonce’s “XO” music video on instagram. I will gladly report that it is my favorite song from her album and you may notice I am wearing a very similar gold necklace. Coincidence? You decide!
Or maybe you want something a bit more adult. In that case check out the Lady Boy Show in Thailand!

[…] Fall is the most beautiful season (arguably my favorite) but summer is certainly the most fun. So although I mourn the end of summer, something special happens at that time. You still get the sticky warmth of summer nights but with the flavors of caramel apples and pumpkin spice. The best way to kick off the turn of these seasons is with an evening of fun at an old county fair. […]
