I haven’t been at my new job very long, so I had to roll into work nice and early on Friday. It felt almost torturous after getting used to holiday breaks for school but my mood brightened when I got all my holiday shopping done over my lunch break from the comfort of my cozy chair. That’s right. ALL. PRESENTS. BOUGHT. Check!
And shortly thereafter I ran right out the door, into the cold, ready to kick off the Christmas season. And if there is a better way to do this than devouring leftovers, drinking cider and hot cocoa, toasting around a bonfire or decorating boats to the brim with Christmas lights please let me know.
We headed out for Middle River early Saturday morning. You might remember my trip here at the end of summer. Well now that the heat has lifted and been replaced by the crisp air and Christmas cheer, we swapped bikinis and dock lounging for fuzzy coats and campfire s’mores.
The boats got in on the spirit too, decorated for one last trip on the water before hibernating for winter.
This boat was our favorite – dressed to the nines in Maryland trimming. The front was a giant Natty Boh guy.
I thought it was cold at home, but it was nothing compared to being out on the water at night. It is safe to say I was sufficiently bundled after throwing on a few extra sweaters and ear warmers.
Rather than warm up inside, we toasted our fingers and toes around a fire. It didn’t take long to break out the marshmallows and chocolate.
When the fire began to die down, we weren’t quite ready for bed so we gathered around to play a few games – family friendly of course – before calling it a night.
How are you kicking off the holiday season?
