I’ve definitely learned a lot in my last few years of travel but sometimes I wish I could just turn to a well seasoned traveling pro and get all the answers.
Last night I got to attend a packing workshop with Jessica, Carlis, Lacey and travel professional Charles McCool. Jessica organized the event to share her knowledge as a packing pro (mostly from her time in the military) while Carlis and Lacey were our traveling fashion experts. Charles and his wife shared their expertise developed from their years on the road (they haven’t checked a bag in over 25 years!) and experience working with the tourism industry.
When it comes to packing…
It’s one thing to fit everything into your bag on your way there, but then before you know it it’s time to go home and somehow your haul has doubled and you can’t zip your suitcase! Be mindful not to overpack before hand. The joke in travel is bring half of what you think you need and twice the money.
INVEST IN A GOOD PIECE OF LUGGAGE.
Your luggage will go through a beating if your lucky so instead of buying a new “cheap” one every so often, opt for a good quality suitcase with a lifetime warranty. It’s definitely worth checking out this carry-on luggage size guide to assist with finding the right size luggage for your flight so you know you can fit in everything you want to take, without paying any of those pesky extra costs at the airport. Jessica used this nifty Max Mirani suitcase to demo and I was mostly impressed that it had a spot for everything. The entire lining comes out to reveal a hidden space for items you would normally need to pack in a garment bag and there were compartments for shoes.
I jotted down so many notes at the event that I will share the (excellent) tips from Charles McCool’s Q+A later this week.
Do you have any go to tricks for packing? Or are you a closet procrastinator, packing at the very last second like me?
