Last weekend Dan and I drove to the Poconos to spend the 4th of July with his college friends. The family that hosted us has a house at Lake Harmony and we somehow fit 15 people in there! During the day we lounged on the end of their dock, posted up by the little beach at Split Rock and took the boat out to attempt some water sports. I was so sore after tubing on Sunday.
At night we hung out at the house playing cornhole, the paper bag game and catch phrase. I had never heard of the paper bag game but it was hilarious. Instead of standing on one leg, we used two and each got a small brown paper lunch bag. As the bag got cut shorter, picking it up required a lot of flexibility and balancing in some precarious positions. There were a lot of laughs.
I spent the weekend with an old-school style camcorder(!!) and my GoPro in hand, so we got some fun footage. Scroll down to the bottom if you want to see the video.
The beachy part of the lakefront was just a short walk away from our house, we usually walked but sometimes hitched a ride on the back of their golf cart.
I brought up a little fleet of floaties: a flamingo, a slice of pizza, a donut and an alligator. Felicia had a slice of pizza and a creamsicle. We were all a bit obsessed with the floaties.
You can actually stay at the Split Rock lodge or visit the lake for the day. A lot of people were there renting paddle boats and kayaks from these guys.
Sunday night everyone cleared out of the beach area and set up lawn chairs along the front of the treeline to watch the prettiest sunset followed by fireworks over the lake.
Lake Harmony was the perfect weekend escape and I can’t remember the last time I had such a fun 4th!
