Right at the end of Canal you can hop on the ferry and ride over to Algiers Point. It used to be free for pedestrians but is now $2 each way. Make sure to have exact change.
Now when it comes to riding on boats I am a child. Hopping around with a gleeful smile spread across my face. Why? Because boats are awesome, that’s why. This was clearly a high point in my day.
The ride is a bit short if you ask me but that’s because Algiers is so dang close. Anyway, those qualms aside, the view is great.
After we got off the ferry, I’m not gonna lie, we had a bit of a “what now?” moment. Lucky for us they have a giant map pinpointing all the little spots to explore.
For some reason both the little coffee shops had closed at noon (I’m going to blame it on the French influence) so we just wandered around the quiet neighborhood. The peaceful break was a well-welcomed moment after spending the morning in the Quarter.
Algiers was pretty but we couldn’t stay forever. With the afternoon sun beating down, it was back onto the ferries with us (yess please, a breeze please).
We wrapped up our day downtown and headed off to the warehouse district to experience the WWII museum.
This is just one part of a fun-filled weekend staycation. You can find my full staycation itinerary here!
