Walking into Katie’s Restuarant, you can just tell that its home to a big family that stretches far beyond the people who work there. From the pictures on the wall to the relics hanging around, you can tell there’s a story behind this place. And best of all, it gives you the feeling that you’re about to get a really good version of a home-cooked favorite.
I really enjoy going to restaurants like this but honestly, the thing that hooked me was the menu. The moment I spotted the garlic feta fries on the menu I knew Katie’s was going on my staycation itinerary. When the weather prevented my picnic plans for City Park I simply switched Katie’s from dinner to lunch so we could eat indoors until the sun came out.
We quickly ordered the fries and then debated the many choices on the rest of the menu. Now I would have happily ate my way through the appetizers but we needed to give some other things a try. Per our servers recommendation we selected the Bordeaux pizza featuring cochon de lait, roasted garlic, fresh spinach, red onions, scallions, and garlic butter cream reduction.
If you’re not from New Orleans or haven’t been, you may not know that cochon de lait is pork (hello, vegetarian problems). Katie’s kindly kept the pork on one half of the pizza for me. This did not prevent me from skeptically scanning each slice for accidental strays. Sorry, you can call it what it is. I’m a little crazy.
Garlic butter cream reduction, why have we never met before? Pizza is my favorite meal. Hands down. And this sauce just took it to a whole new level. And nope, I’m not one bit worried about my breath because I’m far too busy stuffing my face with pizza over here.
The fries and pizza were enough for us to share and we even had a bit left over. In the future though, I am going to order my own pizza for sure so I can relish the deliciousness of the leftovers for a few more meals.
