If you walk to the end of the night market and turn right you will find yourself facing the river on a quiet street. On the left side of this road is Matt’s, a wine bar, and on the right is the little bar you just have to go try, Icon Klub.
We were directed towards this gem by one of Maggie’s contacts in Siem Reap. She is friends with the owner and sent us to meet Lisa when we arrived in Luang Prabang.
Inside you will find a cozy little spot that will make you feel at home before you can even order a drink. This is in part because of the decor, and in bigger part due to the warm welcome you will receive from Lisa.
The cocktails are a bit more pricey than at some of the surrounding cafes but they have been uniquely crafted by Lisa and a slew of previous visitors who experimented and eventually stumbled upon some truly delicious combinations.
Lisa asked us, “sweet or sour?” And since I know I am not one for sweet things I went with sour. She mixed up a Jolly Dom (vodka, gin, raspberry, lime) that reminded me why good drinks are good. I immediately dropped all plans for spending the night drinking cheap street beers and settled in.
Before long we were playing banana grams for drinks and making new friends.
I also recommend the East Side and the Expresso martini… Oh, and don’t miss out on the Raspberry Surprise shooter!
Despite our (sometimes) strict travel budget I will be going back for at least one more round of Jolly Doms and banana grams!
