Do you have any upcoming trips planned? Remember last week when I said I was learning to travel hack? Well I am aggressively saving up my credit card points for a little trip back to my favorite part of the world (thus far). Southeast Asia!
I’m jumping out of my seat just writing about it. I am so excited. And although I’d love to revisit Thailand, this trip is to explore a few new places. First stop will be Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon). Second stop is in Singapore. I’m going at the beginning of January and will spend approximately 5 days in each city.
Even though I haven’t been to so many bucket list places, I decided to head back to Asia because I didn’t get to visit Vietnam last time due to visa requirements and my travel schedule. Also, my cousin who is teaching me his travel hacking genius already had this trip in mind and I’m just hopping on board.
As I’m putting together my itinerary and travel plans, I’d love to hear from you: Do you have any recommendations? Where should I go, what should I eat, what must I do? Here’s what I have so far…
Vietnam
Eat lots of street food – Just like Thailand, I’m sure the best food will be found on the streets. Any tips for deciphering what I can eat as a vegetarian?
Try bánh mi hai trứng and phở chay – Speaking of vegetarian, I have to try these veg-friendly versions of local cuisine.
Find Thuyền Viên – A hole in the wall spot with lots of vegetarian options.
Dinner at the night markets – The night markets are a bustling metropolis of activity after the sun sets. I ate at the night market every night in Luang Prabang and it was a great choice.
Go up to the Saigon Skydeck – I love getting a view of any city I’m visiting from way up high.
Explore Chinatown – There are markets, temples and a little bit of everything else.
Ride along with Sidecar Adventures – My cousin mentioned doing a sidecar tour of the city, how fun would that be?!
Find a custom tailor – And have some creation like this made.
Visit a museum or two – I know at least one of the history buffs in my group will drag me to one lol.
Singapore
Eat carrot cake, chwee kway and other local goodies – It is nothing like the cake we eat for dessert. Know any I have to try?
Try some of the many vegetarian restaurants – Since Singapore offers a mix of cuisines there seem to be a lot of options.
Find Palau Ubin – A little slice of paradise just ten minutes from the city.
Visit the Supertree Grove – How amazing does this look? If you’ve ever seen a picrture of Singapore, you’ve seen these!
Do the MacRitchie Treetop Walk – It’s a hike along a free-standing suspension bridge through the tree tops. Looks like an adult jungle gym to me.
Visit the Bugis neighborhood – This area offers a variety of sights from colonial architecture to colorful Haji Lane and Arab Street.
Have you been to Saigon or Singapore? I’d love to hear your tips! Leave a comment below or on Instagram.
You can also shoot me an email. It would be much appreciated!!
